Secondly, do the upgrade paths really worth it? Or are the upgrade discounts so little that the money spent on SE is at the end down the drain if I end up upgrading and not using the SE anymore?

So, my first question is, do the limitations in SE (afaik, 3 vel layers instead of 4, and whole-tone mapped instead of chromatic) affect the sound a lot, or is it not so much noticable? What do the current and previous users of SE think about this? Will I be able to produce at least "believable" mock-ups compared to the full editions? It's such a shame that VSL does not have any discounts for new comers for Christmas, though. But now I think that it might be better to start with this (SE Vol.1 Bundle) and upgrade or buy other libraries when I can afford (I'll probably won't be able to buy anything else for at least a year). Now, I've always thought that they are not worth the consideration because they are not exactly very cheap and they are the trimmed versions of full collections. But recently, I've started to check the Special Editions of VSL. First I was thinking about buying the different sections from different companies and starting out with EW Hollywood Strings considering their Christmas discount, and then buying a WW library when I can, and so on. Seeing the Christmas Sales, I decided to start my collection of orchestral libraries.
I know that there are some topics in the forum about VSL SE, but I couldn't find anything recent that addresses my questions.
